About Dan

Dan is a dynamic speaker, storyteller, and leader. Currently residing in Sydney, Australia, he leads technology and industry strategy at Microsoft.

With a background as a teacher, UK government National Strategies advisor, school improvement advisor and an Ofsted school inspector. Dan’s journey is marked by a passion for education and innovation. As well as K12 he worked as a Higher Education Blended Learning advisor in the Quality Learning and Teaching unit of WSU. He has also worked in defence in the UK across projects in Scotland and across England with the British Royal Navy and throughout Northern Ireland with the Police, Prison and Fire Service. He is now pursuing a PhD in AI, furthering his commitment to advancing technology and transforming the future.

Dan has a computer science and an education background and loves to innovate and challenge education to transform. He works with all sectors and also tech companies to empower everyone to achieve more. With Equity and diversity at heart, he uses his voice and influence to drive transformational initiatives, and empowering others to turn their ideas into reality.

Dan is an eternal optimist about technology and the future of education and always seeks opportunities to push himself and others out of the comfort zone – because the discomfort is where the growth happens for everyone! He loves making guitars, blending his technical skills with his creative spirit. He is a host on the AI in Education podcast which he started way back before AI was cool, in 2019.

Dan is currently undertaking a PhD as part of the Change and Complexity in Learning area and is a member of AI in Education Oxford University (AIEOU) as an external academic and Industry advisor. He is also a published author of the British Computer Society Glossary of Computing Terms.
